We knew our apartment would be small, but we weren't expecting this:
Yep, that's the whole place, and yep, that's a murphy bed. But we don't fold the bed up because we have all our stuff stored under it.
On Saturday we worked on getting settled and on Sunday we met with our realtor and began checking out some more permanent places to live.
On Monday, Kate had her first day of work:
As you can see, there were a lot of tears, but I managed to convince her that she'd be fine, it would be fun, and that she'd make lots of new friends.
I also had my first economics "review" session on Monday, although there was not much reviewing since I've never done much in the way of economics before. More of a crash course. I also got to meet many of my classmates, and boy do I feel like an old man. Most of them seem to have one year or less of work experience. What a fresh-faced bunch they are!
Last night we met up with my old roommate, Moz, from UBC. He finished his PhD at MIT last year and is now doing a post-doc there. It was good to catch up, and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him.
My orientation kicks off next week, and classes begin the week after. We hope to have a place to live soon, though it probably won't happen overnight. Wish us luck!

Good luck!
Welcome back you two! I think you get the record for the longest honeymoon ever in history! :) Glad to see you made it back in one piece. I have to admit that I've been a lurker here but it's been nice to live vicariously through your trip on this blog. Thanks for sharing.
I have another Basikneads wedding in October! Cross your fingers :)
Take care and keep in touch. Vicky Choy
Oh my god, you saw Moz!!!! Was he still eating only Kraft dinner? Wow, that brings back memories. BTW, I was out at UBC yesterday picking up Dwight from a course and I took a stroll around campus. They tore down the old Chem Eng building! It was heartbreaking. And there is a Starbucks in Kaiser building that seems to have eaten the CEME builidng.
Nice suit Kate! Don, I assume you'll be in one about once a year.
Congrats on making it through the trip and onto Boston.
I started classes myself last night. VA Beach half marathon this weekend (very slowly). Frisbee the weekend after.

hey guys,
glad to see the new posts! I can't wait to hear all about your first week on the job kate! I know you will do a great job. They are lucky to have you.
I can't get over the size of the apartment! maybe you could invest in some furniture that hangs from the ceiling to save space. Or you could put numbers above your pillows to remind you of the boat you slept on during your honeymoon. the possiblities are endless... :)
