Our tour began with a stop at the Cao Dai temple. Cao Dai is an interesting religion that worships Confucious, Mohammed, Moses, Jesus, and Budda, along with some other interesting choices such as Victor Hugo (the 2nd Saint, apparently), Joan of Arc, and William Shakespere.

Apparently their pope and arch bishops have all died out, and the communists are keeping such a close eye on them that they cannot conduct a seance to determine the new pope and arch bishops...
We continued on to Cu Chi, site of an extensive network of tunnels used by the Viet Cong to help them evade US and South Vietnamese troops and bombs, which pockedmarked the landscape with craters this one, about 50 feet across and 15-20 feet deep.

The tunnels enabled the VC to maintain control of the area, which is just 70 km from Saigon. The original tunnels were a very tight fit:

The "tourist" tunnels have been enlarged to double their original size. Hard to imagine going through something half this size!

There is also a shooting range on site, and visitors are able to buy ammunition for various rifles and handguns. What the heck, we figured. It's not every day you get the chance to fire an AK-47:
