Fair Warning: Vietnamese Massage

I held off on posting this until I had mostly recovered, but I wanted to give a little heads-up to anyone who happens to find himself considering a massage in Vietnam: I suggest avoiding the treatment with herbal oils on the back. I don't know which chemical warfare agent those sadists smeared on me, but here is what it did to my back:

Here I am, 9 days later, with the marks mostly gone:

Wow! This maiming on top of all your other negative experiences in Hanoi. Could it be payback against Americans for their role in the war thirty years ago?

Hell, now that's one service business that deserves some sort of retribution

Hopefully it wasn't a big hamper on moving around

It was really painful as they were doing it, but so is everything else about a Vietnamese massage, it seems. It wasn't until afterwards that I saw what it did. We hurried back to the hotel and I washed it off as soon as I could. Once I had washed it off, it wasn't really painful at all, but the marks stayed for quite a while.
